Can a cat grab things with their paws like you can pick things up in your hand?

One of my cats likes to pick up bits of dry food in her right fore paw & puts it down gently on the floor - then she bats it away just to have something to chase after. I think she's figured out to use her toes like fingers.
Is this normal with cats? Or are they not supposed to do people things with their paws?

Yes, to a degree. My old, declawed female picks up captured mice and throws them into the wall like a baseball. She likes to throw things or just hold onto them. She has no thumbs so opening jars won't really work for her.
