What do you know about contemporary Japanese art?

I have to do a project on daily life of a certain society in a certain time,is it a good idea to choose modern Japanese art? I actually don't know anything besides manga and anime. Can you suggest me another topic or is it a good one?
Why are Sumo wrestling and Noh theater not cool anymore??

In my opinion why Sumo wrestling and Nor theater are not cool any more because..

sumo wrestling - wrestlers are fat and naked, only man can fight, need to grow your hair, they don't like to change old custom

Noh theater - too old fashioned, they use old Japanese language as a fossil, even Japanese can't understand what they saying, story are not modern.
